At Signify Health, a CVS Health® company, our mission is to build trusted relationships to make people healthier. Our national network of more than 12,000 clinicians works to help people gain a more comprehensive view of their health by conducting In-Home Health Evaluations (IHEs). During an IHE, clinicians identify chronic conditions, close gaps in care, and address social determinants of health, making it possible for health plan members to get connected to the right care for their unique needs.
We’re proud to showcase the clinicians helping us build a more connected, effective care experience for all – and their personal stories that make this important work feel #ClosetoHome. This is Dr. Wright’s story.
Jamie Wright, DO, MS
It’s not easy to juggle the demands of being an OB-GYN while also making time for family and personal interests. That’s what brought Jamie Wright, DO, MS, to Signify Health in 2010.
“I have four kids in the early phase of adulthood. I’ve been able to focus on mentoring them in a higher quality way than I would in a typical role as a physician. Making modifications to my location and the timing of my work has been so important for this phase in my life,” he said.
Beyond the benefits of work-life balance, seeing members in their homes also allows Dr. Wright to focus on two important issues: education and prevention.
In his experience, health plan members with complex health issues don’t always understand the root causes of their conditions. In addition, some struggle to communicate effectively with their doctors or navigate the broader health care system. He believes the education clinicians offer during the in-home visit can make a difference.
“Signify Health allows me to prioritize what’s important, and I put my energy into helping members understand the rationale behind their care,” he said. “Ultimately, I want to help them improve their quality of life and reduce the severity of complications.”
For example, maintaining a healthy diet is one of the steps members can take to feel better. Dr. Wright encourages members to start a food journal and monitor blood sugar closely. Over time, members will be able to see how certain foods affect blood sugar and energy levels.
“Over time, members can work on developing new habits to reduce or eliminate problematic foods from their diet and then see a benefit in both blood sugar, pain levels, and overall quality of life,” he said.
Dr. Wright enjoys the feeling of being able to help members and families learn more about what they can do to manage their health. Recently, he encountered a member with uncontrolled blood sugar and dehydration. He referred the member for follow-up care and provided education to the member and a family member on the importance of blood sugar monitoring.
“This experience is a great example of how meaningful a home visit can be,” he said.
