At Signify Health, a CVS Health® company, our mission is to build trusted relationships to make people healthier. Our national network of more than 12,000 clinicians works to help people gain a more comprehensive view of their health by conducting In-Home Health Evaluations (IHEs). During an IHE, clinicians identify chronic conditions, close gaps in care, and address social determinants of health, making it possible for health plan members to get connected to the right care for their unique needs.
We’re proud to showcase the clinicians helping us build a more connected, effective care experience for all – and their personal stories that make this important work feel #ClosetoHome. This is Lauren’s story.
When the perks of a new job included a four-day work week, physician assistant (PA) Lauren Delgrosso didn’t fill open times with hobbies or relaxation; she filled her extra time with Video Visits through Signify Health.
“I was researching extra job opportunities and came across the ad from Signify Health. After I applied online, I received a call immediately from my recruiter. Everything came together smoothly from there,” she said.
Lauren appreciates the flexibility of working with Signify Health. She works one day per week and a few evenings when time allows. The extra income helps fund her passion for traveling, both domestically and internationally.
As a clinician who focuses on Video Visits, Lauren knows the importance of quickly building trust with health plan members. She doesn’t let the virtual nature of the visit limit her ability to connect with the individuals she sees.
“You can still notice things about the health plan member’s home, whether it’s a picture of a grandchild or something else in the background,” she said. “I am still able to make it a good visit, even though it’s different from being in person. We can cover a lot in our time together.”
Beyond the important health topics covered during the Video Visit, Lauren believes the time she spends with health plan members also provides a brief respite from the loneliness many people experience, particularly those who have lost a spouse or live far from family.
“My favorite part of working with Signify Health is getting to talk to people who I would not meet otherwise. Interaction is so important if, like some of the people I see, they spend much of their time alone,” she said.
Lauren also finds that some members struggle with expenses, including the costs of prescription drugs or groceries. She likes knowing she can refer them to their health plan’s case management programs for assistance.
However, not every part of the job is easy. Sometimes, the greatest barrier to completing a visit is a simple one—getting members to pick up the phone. Lauren sometimes faces challenges reaching health plan members for reminder calls or when it’s time to start the visit. However, she recommends leaving a voicemail if no one picks up on the first call. If the call isn’t returned within five to ten minutes, she calls again.
“I’ve had good luck with this approach. People receive so many spam calls. Once they hear my voicemail, they’re more likely to pick up when I call back,” she said.
Lauren has been a PA for more than nine years. She earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from St. Francis University. She is continuing her education and will soon earn a Ph.D.
A resident of Altoona, PA, Lauren enjoys spending time with her family. She’s engaged and planning a wedding for December 2024.
