Whether caring for service members overseas or completing In-Home Health Evaluations near his home in Ward, AR, serving others has been a lifelong commitment for Signify Health Physician Assistant (PA) Robert Olivi.
Robert’s health care journey began during his military service. Building on his experience as an Army combat medic, he completed his education to become a PA at the University of Nebraska Medical Center through the joint services program.
“As a PA in the military, I supported a battalion of 1,500 with their day-to-day health and welfare. If they deployed, I would deploy with them,” he said.
After retiring from the military, Robert spent a year in Kabul, Afghanistan, working as a PA in the American Embassy. Once he returned to the U.S., he was ready to try something new.
Finding flexibility with Signify Health
Robert was on the verge of switching to a role in a clinic when he heard from a recruiter with Signify Health. He took the opportunity to try something different.
“What I enjoy about the IHE is the chance to see people of all ages in their homes,” he said. “I also enjoy the ease of selecting the days I want to work. I don’t know of another job where I have this much flexibility.”
Like other Signify Health clinicians, Robert encounters members with a wide range of needs, from the 96-year-old who still mows her own grass to those living with chronic conditions.
He seeks to build trust with health plan members, especially those who are unfamiliar with the IHE. Sometimes, individuals are wary of the visit and need more information about the purpose of the IHE and how they will benefit from it.
Robert consistently encounters members with questions about their medications, particularly those with a higher number of prescriptions.
“Some members are very knowledgeable, and some have a lot of questions,” Robert said. “During the visit, there is time to answer member’s questions, including why they’re taking medications, the best time to take them, etc.,” Robert said.
Robert says when health plan members do not understand their medications, they cannot make good health care decisions. For example, he recently encountered a health plan member who was planning to stop taking one of his medications. After a conversation with Robert, he learned just how important that medicine is to his health.
When he’s not working with Signify Health, Robert enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife and two sons, both in college. He and his wife enjoy traveling, often to watch their son play baseball on his collegiate team.
